Half a Day in Óbidos

While my aunt was here, we decided that we wanted to show her a few sights from Portugal. In this video, we took a half-day trip to Óbidos, one of the best-preserved and most picturesque medieval towns in all of Portugal. We probably left the house at around mid-day and got there in like 2-ish hours. The GPS took us to the back of the town (where I don’t think anyone should park) so we had to put in the address for the tourist center right outside the city walls. We stopped inside to get a map of the town so that we could more or less plan our route. From there we followed the path and visited a few of the places that caught our eye like the stunning town entrance (the one you see in the video thumbnail) and the library. Since we got there later in the day, we didn’t really stop to see the museums (we’ll check them out next time). We checked out the outside of the palace and explored the residential part of the town for a little bit. We ate like locals in this restaurant that was not on the main road. The food was really good and had a taste that was typical to the area. We also found this really cute place called The Literacy Man. It’s kind of a hotel/library/cafe. We finished our half-day with a nice shot of Ginja – a Portuguese cherry liquor – in a chocolate cup in Mariquinhas Experience. It was pretty chilly that day (please ignore me being in a summer shirt even though it’s fall) and a shot of Ginja was exactly what we needed before making our way back home.

  1. Óbidos os truly beautiful 🙂 I miss this village so much… Anyway I just found there’s a direct train from Lisbon, so I might return there one of these days! Great to see you’re having a special time in my country 🙂 PedroL

    1. Portugal truly is a beautiful country! Sometimes I get a little sad when my friends decide to skip over Portugal to go to Spain (not that Spain is a bad place to go), but usually, I just offer them a place to stay since I live here. It helps me to persuade them 😂

      1. Dear Mari, thank you for such kind feedback 🙂 I feel really happy to know how happy you are in Portugal! By persuade your friends I would see you even as an ambassador eheh

I believe it is not possible to compare countries. To be honest, not even to compare cities: I was born and grew up in Lisbon and I’m totally in love with Porto, especially because I found such peculiarities there that I could never find in my hometown.

In general, we travel because we are curious about other countries. I hope your friends start to listen you and come to Portugal because I’m sure they’ll be surprised and have a lovely time here.

        Have a lovely weekend,
        Regards from Lisbon,
        PedroL
