Originally I had planned to make part 2 of the Necessary Trip posts about the return trip from the US to PT, but that didn’t exactly work out. So here I am once again, writing about travel from PT to the US. This time, though, we’re fully vaccinated. The last time you read about me traveling Stateside, the world was kind of in peak COVID-19 era. While this pandemic hasn’t exactly gone away, my family has more security in regard to our health. This go-round, we have our booster shots before going back to PT. Without further ado, here is Part 2 of the Necessary Trip.
EU to USA (AGAIN)
The shuttle we hired to take us to the airport was scheduled to pick us up at about 3am. Our flight was at 6ish so we wanted to be there early. I put on my COVID-19 Travel gear, which is just a mask, hat, and face shield. You’ll see in the video that I didn’t keep the face shield on because
face shield + mask + glasses = no vision
And I kind of needed to see. There were a few bumps when going through security and I will reluctantly say that it was my own fault. I should have known better, but everything was smooth sailing after that. Our first layover was in MUC. We didn’t really have a lot of time to hang out in the airport cause we had to go through border control and change terminals. We were able to sit down for about 20 minutes before boarding, so I started editing what I had filmed for my vlog. It was kind of a lot so all I really did was put things in order. On both flights, everyone had their masks on and was respectful of what the airlines asked in terms of keeping it on during the flight if you aren’t actively eating.
The flight to CLT was probably one of my most embarrassing flights ever. But in a self-secondhand-embarrassment kind of way. I don’t know any other way to say it. When the flight attendant came to ask for our drinks, she couldn’t hear what I said. The first time I asked for juice and she gave me ginger ale. The second time I asked for tea and I got wine. For the third time, I just asked my mom to tell her what I wanted. I honestly wanted to cry. Like, was I speaking too soft? Was I too far away? I mean, I obviously didn’t say anything the first two times because that’s even worse than not being heard. But I felt secondhand embarrassment, only it was for myself.
So this was my second attempt at a video and a somewhat corresponding blog post for my Covid Chronicles articles. The first video was supposed to be with part 1 of “The One With The [Necessary] Trip”, but that didn’t happen. So this time you get a generic COVID-19 Travel Vlog. Hoped you all enjoy it!
